Well… okay, maybe not a monster, there’s no getting away from the fact that a rear wheel drive BMW M5 is never quite going to be the ideal choice for sliding around muddy hillsides. Thanks to a new section of upgrades you can now turn any car in the game into a rally monster. The championships on offer cover everything from vintage hot hatchbacks to super saloons. Oh, and don’t think this is only for mud-pluggers. Still what’s on offer here still looks great and it can be genuinely intimidating racing in these conditions.
How to get to storm island forza horizon 2 Ps4#
It must be said that the recently released Driveclub on PS4 does have better looking weather, but that’s a circuit racer rather than the open world of FH2 so can afford to dedicate more power to the effects. Driving wind, dense fog, torrential rain and more all comes in to play and gives the island a very different feel from the mainland. Forza Horizon 2 already had a very nice weather system in play but it gets cranked up to 11 here. These are the headline races for the expansion and throw you behind the wheel of a suitably over the top off-road monster hurtling through a point-to-point race in the middle of a tropical storm, usually in the middle of the night.Īh yes, storms, the other big headline act. There’s only one hub on Storm Island and instead of being able to tackle any championship you want you’ll find 6 tiers of events on offer with a Gauntlet event at each tier. Talking of which there’s actually a bit of a change from the regular FH2 championship system. At around 3 miles long it’s not the biggest area in the world but it feels just right for what’s on offer. If you’re struggling to get skill points it’s an island paradise with most races offering chances to rack up huge points chains just because of the number of jumps and drifts you’ll be doing. Designed around off-road rally stages it’s an entirely different animal to the condensed version of France and Italy in the main game and it’s just a joy to drive. For a start Storm Island give you an entirely new map to race in and it’s glorious.
However it’s not just the 6R4 that convinced me to hit the buy button, oh no. The first decent (in the very loosest sense of the word) car I owned was an MG Metro so the chance to actually own this beast and drive it in the Forza world was enough to get me interested in dropping the £15 asking price on Storm Island. Well, okay, it’s only based on the *shape* of the Metro but it’s still genuinely nuts.
Yep, some lunatic took the worst hot hatch ever and turned it into a mid-engined, 4 wheel drive, v6 powered rally car. primarily for this:įor those who didn’t follow the insanity of Group B Rallying back in the 80’s that there is a Metro 6R4. So why on earth grab an expansion pack for a game I hadn’t finished? Well…. Even with over 40 hours logged I’m still nowhere near close completing all of the championships on offer and have only recently started to play around with the on-line options. Simply put it’s possibly the best racing game I’ve ever played with fantastic driving mechanics paired with a true open world and great reward structure. I reviewed Forza Horizon 2 back at the end of October and - spoiler alert - absolutely loved it.
Storm Island, however, managed to overcome both those problems in no small part to being a proper, full-blown expansion to what was already a superb game. Partially that’s down to publishers getting greedy and putting out very little actual content for your money but mostly by the time I’m done with the original game there’s another title demanding my time.
